Paintstiks are real oil paint in a solid stick form
and, unlike conventional oil colors, Paintstik Oil Colors are dry to the
touch in 24 hours!
They can be used for sketching out shape, composition,
and color without messy palettes or mixing cups. Colors can be spread
or blended with a brush, knife, or Colorless Blender. The colors are completely
compatible and can be blended with any oil paints.
Use turpentine to thin in necessary. Paintstik colors
are self-sealing — just peel off the film before each use.
There are no unpleasant odors or fumes, so you
can paint virtually anywhere, at any time, and on almost any surface:
canvas, paper, wood, plastic, metal, and fabric. Non-toxic and hypo-allergenic.
The Quality pigments are mixed with special drying oils
in a highly refined wax base, and they can be used on a wide variety of
surfaces like wood, metal and paper, and almost any type of fabric
including natural or synthetics, leather or suede.
Using Shiva Paintstiks with Cedar
Canyon Rubbing Plates allows you to create designs easily
and quickly. It's a great way to add all-over design to a simple dyed
silk scarf or low immersion dyed cotton fabric.
You can use Shiva Paintstiks with rubbing plates, stencils,
rubber stamps or by using masking techniques.
Working with Fabrics
If using commercial fabrics or clothing, prewash and
press prior to application. When using your own hand-dyes it is best to
use the paintsticks as a final layer. (If you do overdye, the soda ash
breaks down the paint and it washes off.) Tape or pin down the fabric
to give better control when applying the paintstick.
Apply paint in the desired method (rubbing plates, stencil
brushes, rubbing, or direct drawing). Allow to dry - generally 3-5 days
on fabric. To Heat Set: Use a press cloth or paper to protect the
iron. Iron on the appropriate temperature setting for the fabric for 10-15
seconds per area until all of the design has been heat set. Wash gently
in cool to warm water to remove any residue. Do not dry clean.
